Abstract

Throughout the 2000s, Brazilian public policies experienced an opening process to social participation. Commonly isolated from internal debates, foreign policy was also influenced by this process, therefore, the engagement of some rural social movements was noticed for some agendas, such as the family farming. In this article, Contag’s participation in Brazilian foreign policy was analyzed based on the political narratives developed by the organization, as well as the political opportunities built in two international arenas: WTO and FAO. In addition to providing details about the confederation's participation in foreign policy debates, the article presents the convergences and divergences of Contag’s participation in the two international organizations above mentioned.
