This paper discusses what it means to be an artisanal fisherman or fisherwoman via the category of social reproduction. In terms of methodology, interviews and direct observations of the daily life of these individuals in the states of Pernambuco and Sergipe were conducted. Notable among the different ways of being and creating oneself as a fishermen or fisherwomen was the way social reproduction expresses ecological dynamics, forms of work, historical and cultural elements, and insertion into the social totality.
