Doutrinas francesas e o pensamento racial brasileiro, 1870-1930
Abstract
No final do século XIX, os intelectuais brasileiros, inspirados pela noção européia da desigualdade humana, viam a heterogeneidade racial como um obstáculo potencial à construção da identidade nacional. A maioria deles adotou a doutrina do embranquecimento como uma solução possível para remover esse tipo de entrave ao desenvolvimento do país. Eles propunham também a imigração caucasiana e desestimulavam fortemente a importação de trabalhadores asiáticos. Neste artigo, são analisadas as influências de Comte de Gobineau; Louis Couty e Vacher de Lapouge nos pensadores brasileiros.
