Subúrbio, periferia e vida cotidiana
Abstract
Este o trabalho pretende discutir o papel metodológico que cumprem os conceitos de subúrbio e periferia na perspectiva teórica de José de Souza Martins, um dos mais importantes sociólogos brasileiros. A análise desses dois conceitos permite construir um novo olhar da espacialidade e, sobretudo, um novo modo de pensar a cidade. Influenciado por Henri Lefebvre, um dos mais destacados sociólogos urbanos, Martins parte do que está na margem, do que aparece despercebido, oculto. É o caso do subúrbio, esquecido e substituído pela noção de periferia. A noção de subúrbio contém uma nova concepção de espaço, uma nova sociabilidade, onde ocorre a ruptura e a transição para a modernidade da cidade. O subúrbio representa o ser dividido entre o urbano e o propriamente rural. Um conceito que não teve até hoje relevância no mundo acadêmico sendo substituído pela noção de periferia que é seu contrário. Na periferia concretiza-se a subordinação da cidade e da urbanização à rendada terra.
