Vaqueiros, bois e boiadas – trabalho, negócio e cultura na pecuária do nordeste mineiro
Abstract
Este estudo analisa a pecuária de “soltas” do Nordeste de Minas Gerais –os vales do Mucuri e Jequitinhonha– dos fins do século XIX a meados do século XX. Investiga, primeiro, o ofício do vaqueiro e seu processo de trabalho na fazenda; depois, procura compreender a relação da pecuária com o ambiente; o comércio de gado é estudado em seguida, analisando-se suas características mercantis e não-mercantis; por último, analisa os comerciantes de gado e o complexo sistema de negócios. O estudo descreve uma sociedade pautada pela ambigüidade, produzida pelo encontro entre novidade e tradição, paternalismo e trabalho, domesticidade e comércio, simbolizada pela velha fazenda.Downloads
