This article recaptures the main aspects of the caipira culture in Cornélio Pires’ production and Carlos Alberto Soffredini’s theater – two authors in different times. In order to do this, it analyses the importance of the figure of Cornélio Pires in the diffusion about the rural world at the turn of the century, as well as some of his creations in the field of folk music and literature. Pires is one of the authors who references Soffredini’s work, revisiting his trajectory in the show A estrambótica aventura da música caipira, in 1990 – analyzed here in order to comment on the representation of caipira and folk culture produced in this play, the re-interpretation of Pires' work and some impacts of the choices made in this production in the context of the end of the 20th century in Brazil.
Keywords: Cornélio Pires; Carlos Alberto Soffredini; folk culture; Brazilian literature; rural culture.
