The rural landscapes, historical product of anthropization of natural systems, present new features, in the current period in which the needs of financial gains accelerate more and more the processes of economic exploitation of the existing resources. In this plot that involves economic, social, cultural and environmental relations, we propose to introduce the productive transformations which implied changes in rural landscapes in the West of Santa Catarina during the period from 1997 to 2016, using data on land use for agriculture and livestock. The data used is from the Municipal Agricultural Research – PAM and Municipal Livestock Survey-PPM, of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics-IBGE. The presentation is made based on thematic maps, having as an organisational base the Five Units of Regional Landscape (WELTER, 2006). We observed a severe structural change in regional rural landscapes, with the reorganisation of the spaces of agricultural production according to the structure of physical, technical, applied technologies and the history of anthropic occupation, caused by the demand for agricultural and livestock commodities.
Keywords: rural landscapes; family agriculture; West of Santa Catarina; agricultural production.
