The present study aims to analyze the degree of empowerment of women who are part of the Agrarian Cooperative of the Piquiri Valley (Cooperagra) and/or the Association of Women of the Settlement of Our Lady (Amana) located in the municipality of Mariluz, northwest region of the state of Paraná, Brazil. To do so, we used data obtained through the application of a questionnaire to the associates, based on the theory that addresses this theme, with which the Gender Empowerment and Development Index (IEDG) was calculated. As main results, it was observed that the level of empowerment is considered moderate and that the dimensions related to this indicator were related to the use of time, fecundity, housing conditions and access to health. However, an excellent result was highlighted regarding the dimension represented by the participation of women in decision-making in the community, cooperative or association and appreciation of their opinions, thus reinforcing that the benefits of collective action are not only economic and that their feasibility is due to the presence of other incentives. In this way, social organization and principles of cooperativism allow the social insertion of women, increasing their social, political and psychological empowerment.
Keywords: empowerment; collective action; rural development; cooperativism.
