Classes agrárias, trabalhadores e democracia
Abstract
Este artigo versa sobre a história política da Europa ocidental, ressaltando a importância da classe trabalhadora na definição das possibilidades e limites da atuação estatal na esfera econômica. Enfoca especificamente o processo de construção do Estado moderno com ênfase no papel das coalizões de classe nos séculos XVIII e XIX. A partir desse panorama, é considerada a proposição de que a democracia não foi resultado apenas de certas configurações dos grupos agrários e da influência de uma forte burguesia, mas também da ativa participação dos trabalhadores urbanos na política. São analisadas as experiências social-democratas escandinavas.
