Roger Bastide: um estudioso sobre a consciência das camadas subalternas no Brasil
Abstract
O artigo procura evidenciar as razões que levaram Roger Bastide a considerar o candomblé como religião e a macumba e a umbanda como seitas mágicas. Sugere que com essa compreensão, o intelectual procurou não apenas explicar o modo como as camadas sociais se relacionavam no Brasil durante a escravidão, como indicar duas formas possíveis de tomada de consciência por parte da camada subalterna, a que se dava pela filiação ao candomblé e a que se dava pela adesão ao espiritismo da umbanda e pela macumba. O artigo irá destacar os aspectos da obra de Bastide que compõem o que muitos entenderam como uma nova interpretação sobre como a relação entre senhores e escravos e também da dinâmica social brasileira.
