Euclides da Cunha e Joseph Conrad: narrativas consagradas sobre o “mundo desconhecido”
Abstract
Nossa reflexão se volta para a análise da mais canônica narrativa constitutiva do imaginário brasileiro sobre a Amazônia: os escritos amazônicos na obra de Euclides da Cunha (1866-1909), intentando tratar tais escritos como narrativa, relato de sua experiência sobre a região que, carregada de “literaturidade”, critica e reproduz a ideologia de sua época. O que tentamos realizar nesse artigo é uma aproximação, decerto imperfeita: assim como em Euclides da Cunha, o legado de Joseph Conrad (1857/1924) é mais que reconhecido, notadamente quanto à revelação do "mundo desconhecido". Não são poucos os estudiosos da cultura que têm dedicado cuidadosa atenção à sua obra, entre os quais podemos destacar Edward Said e Fredric Jameson, assim como é enorme a sua influência sobre escritores tão diversos como Jorge Luis Borges e V. S. Naipaul, e cineastas como Francis Ford Coppola e Oliver Stone.Downloads
