Comer carne e salvar a Amazônia? A produtividade da pecuária em Rondônia e sua relação com o desmatamento
Abstract
O artigo investiga a existência de uma dinâmica espacial e socioeconômica na Amazônia brasileira que leva a pecuária tradicional a se deslocar a regiões de fronteira e a pecuária intensiva a se concentrar em áreas rurais consolidadas, onde a fertilidade natural dos solos se exauriu e os pecuaristas tiveram de optar entre intensificar ou deixar a atividade. Com base em análise de narrativas, triangulação com dados primários de pesquisa amostral, e dados secundários da Agência de Defesa Sanitária Agrossilvopastoril de Rondônia (IDARON), o texto conclui que o mercado de arrendamento de terras é fator crucial para explicar a relação entre desmatamento e intensificação da pecuária.Downloads
