Canudos no cinema e as metáforas da nacionalidade
Abstract
A partir de O Cangaceiro, filme de Lima Barreto de 1953, Deus e o Diabo na Terra do Sol, de 1964, e O Dragão da Maldade Contra o Santo Guerreiro, de 1969, ambos de Glauber Rocha, examinamos três formas de abordagem do cinema sobre a herança de Canudos. Não se trata da saga de Conselheiro e seus fiéis, mas das apropriações que se fizeram a partir do que Canudos representou para a história nacional, para a literatura e mesmo para o senso comum. Veremos que, tanto quanto há cem anos atrás, Canudos pode representar diversas e até contraditórias metáforas da nacionalidade e ser reclamado para legitimar distintos projetos de nação.
