The journal Estudos Sociedade e Agricultura is a publication of the Postgraduate Program in Social Sciences in Development, Agriculture and Society of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (CPDA / UFRRJ).

Focus, scope and audience
Estudos Sociedade e Agricultura is a journal of Social Sciences dedicated to the study of the rural world whose mission is to disseminate research and reflections on this theme and its transformations from the perspective of social sciences and interdisciplinarity and to promote the exchange of scientific and academic knowledge in Brazil and abroad. International.
The journal is directed to institutions and research centers in Brazil, Latin America and other countries, specializing in its theme; and researchers, teachers, postgraduate students and others interested in the rural and agrarian issue.
Academic articles and reviews are published in Portuguese, English, Spanish or French.


Frequency
The journal Estudos Sociedade e Agricultura adopts the format of continuous publication.
Published uninterruptedly since 1993 – it was semi-annual until 2015, four-monthly between 2016 and 2021, and since the beginning of 2022 it has a continuous publication format, in which articles are published as they are approved (after evaluation, review and layout).
Two numbers will be closed per year (n. 1 with articles published from January to June and n. 2 with articles published from July to December).

Free Access Policy
The journal is published in Open Access and does not charge authors any processing or submission fees. This journal offers immediate free access to its content, following the principle that providing free scientific knowledge to the public provides greater global democratization of knowledge and declaring itself thus adhering to the Budapest Open Access Initiative.


Research and publication ethics
Estudos Sociedade e Agricultura, aware of the academic and social responsibility of a scientific journal, follows the guidelines of the Codes of Ethics of the Committee on Publication Ethics - COPE (http://www.publicationethics.org/) and the National Development Council Scientific and Technological (http://www.cnpq.br/web/guest/diretrizes), in addition to having developed its own code of ethics.
These guidelines are subject to authors, editorial staff, technical staff and reviewers of the journal.


Access
All its volumes and numbers are available online and with unrestricted access.


DOI
The magazine Estudos Sociedade e Agricultura adopts (since 2019 but all editions until 2017 are already registered) the DOI (Digital Object Identifier) ​​feature, with its own prefix, which makes it easier to disseminate, search, quote and also to fill in the production of the authors in Lattes and Orcid (when filling in with your DOI code, the system automatically pulls all the information from the article and completes the registration).


Self-archiving policy
Authors are allowed and encouraged to increase the visibility, reach and impact of their publications in the journal before and after their publication in this journal by means of re-broadcasting (self-archiving) in:
- Personal spaces on the web, such as blogs or portals, social networks, scientific forums, among others.
- Institutional open archives, such as university archives.
- Social networks of academic and scientific nature, such as ResearchGate and Academia.edu.
Such publications are required to detail all bibliographic data of the publication.


Digital preservation policy
Estudos Sociedade and Agricultura uses different digital preservation practices aimed at ensuring permanent accessibility to its digital objects and resources:
- Preservation on own servers: the technician responsible for the magazine's website / OJS makes backup copies of the entire magazine weekly (weekly backups).
- Preservation in external repositories and services: the magazine adopts the DOI system and accommodation of complete texts in external repositories.
- Digital preservation services: this magazine uses LOCKSS and CLOCKSS systems to create a file system distributed among participating libraries and allows them to create permanent magazine files for preservation and restoration.
In addition, the journal also maintains backup copies of articles published in cloud storage services accounts.

The journal has the support of the Rectory of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), the Dean of Research and Postgraduate Studies (PROPPG), the Department of Development, Agriculture and Society (DDAS), the Postgraduate Program in Social Sciences in Development, Agriculture and Society (CPDA) and the Research Support Foundation of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ).


History
Estudos Sociedade e Agricultura has been published uninterruptedly since 1993, when it was created by professors Raimundo Santos and Luiz Flávio de Carvalho Costa, who also occupied the positions of editors until 2006, when the magazine started having professor Raimundo Santos as its only editor-in-chief, a position in which he remained until his death in October 2020. Still at the end of 2020, it had a provisional editor shared by professors Leonilde Servolo de Medeiros and Sergio Pereira Leite for the closing of the next issue. In early 2021, the journal's new Editorial Committee was formed, with professor Maria José Carneiro as editor-in-chief and professors Carmen Andriolli and Leonilde Servolo de Medeiros as associate editors. Since the beginning of 2024, professor Marcelo Rosa joined the committee (in place of Prof. Leonilde after 3 years at the journal).
